Every winter, over 2,000 competitors, judges, coaches, and volunteers converge at Eagan High School for the Eagan Wildcat Invitational. But the Wildcat Invitational isn't like other speech tournaments. From the moment people enter the door to the second they leave, they are immersed in a world of high-quality, high-energy, and brand-consistent audio/visual content.
Since March 2017, I have coordinated and produced all the audio/visual content for this tournament.
Quick-Edit Video Recap
The Video Recap is one of the main elements that brings the Wildcat Invitational to life. Throughout the day, I go around the building with a couple of cameras and record competitors as they goof off, get ready for rounds, and compete. This usually takes 4-6 hours. Once I'm done shooting, I usually have 1-2 hours to import, edit, and render a 2-3 minute final product. The video is then projected in the gym right before the awards ceremony begins.
Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, Panasonic DVX200 4K, GoPro HERO4 SILVER, EVO GP-PRO, Mac Pro 6-core 3.5 GHz
The awards ceremony at the Wildcat Invitational is unlike any other speech and debate awards ceremony in Minnesota. The pre-ceremony experience incorporates moving lights, audio-reactive projected graphics, popular pump-up music, and a video recap of the day. The whole event is also broadcast live on a multi-cam Periscope stream for friends and family to see.
The informational loop provides competitors, judges, and coaches with the information they need to get through the day via Eagan High School's closed-circuit HDTV system. The video runs continuously on an eight minute loop.
Here's an excerpt from the 2018 loop.
